The lamestream media has spent the last four years lying to you and trying to claim that crime is down, but it really is not.
Take the three-on-one “debate” led by leftist ABC News host David Muir who hit Trump with the false “fact check” that “the FBI says overall violent crime is coming down in this country.”
Only two days after this biased debate, the FBI that Muir said claims that crime is down released a report that said crime is up.

Two days later, the Bureau of Justice Statistics released the results of its national crime victimization survey, which showed that the number of victims of violent crime was 41% higher in 2023 than in 2020.
There were almost 170,000 more rapes, 300,000 more robberies, 1.4 million more assaults, 300,000 more claims of domestic violence, and almost 400,000 more crimes with a violent weapon.
This wasn’t a surprise. That same survey showed a significant jump in crime victimization in 2022 – something we noted in this space back in July. (“Now They’re Gaslighting Us About Biden’s ‘Accomplishments’”)
And in January, the Council on Criminal Justice, which tracks crimes in 39 cities, found homicide rates were 18% higher in 2023 than in 2019, aggravated assaults up 8%, gun assaults up 32%, and carjackings up 93%.
David Muir is hardly the only member of the left-wing media claiming that crime is down. They pretty much all are doing it.
But there is a particular problem with using the FBI for crime stats these days. The FBI’s stats are really failing to report true numbers.
As we here at the LidBlog have pointed out before, the FBI’s numbers are no longer reliable.
One big problem is that the number of police departments across the country reporting their data to the FBI has cratered to less than 65 percent of departments. Therefore, the numbers the Bureau is reporting just aren’t accurate.
In April, the Coalition for Law Order and Safety released its new report entitled, “Assessing America’s Crime Crises: Trends, Causes, and Consequences,” and identified four areas causing an increase in crime in America’s big cities.
“The lead authors of the report are Mark Morgan, former assistant FBI director and acting commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection during the Trump administration, and Sean Kennedy, an attorney for the Law Enforcement Legal Defense Fund,” the group said.
The group found that the FBI is incorrectly classifying crimes on top of have less accurate numbers from police departments.
Also, as Issues & Insights added, many victims are no longer even reporting crimes because the leftist “prosecutors” aren’t even sending any suspects to jail… or even into court, for that matter.
It all adds up to a false picture of the actual rising crime in American cities being reported by both the crooked FBI and the biased media.
