The University of Iowa has announced that it is shutting down its women’s studies department and ending Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion policies.
On December 17, the university put out a memo saying: “Under the proposed plan, the college would close the departments of American Studies and Gender, Women’s, and Sexuality Studies, as well as the current majors in American Studies and in Social Justice, which have fewer than 60 students combined, and create a new major in Social and Cultural Analysis.”
This move appears to be part of the university’s vote in 2023 to begin rolling back the school’s DEI efforts.
But it is also in response to the state legislature’s recent moves to force the issue by passing legislation defunding DEI at publicly-funded schools.
However, a closer look at the university’s move shows that these horrid ideas aren’t being abandoned but are, instead, just being shifted to a “new” major.
This is what universities all across the nation have been doing. Pretending they are obeying legislators, but also just hiding it elsewhere and in other departments.
