Congress passed a law banning Chinese-owned. On Friday the U.S. Supreme Court upheld that ban as constitutional and legal. Then, on Sunday, TikTok turned off its service. And it was a stunt the whole time.
The social media service went dark on Sunday and left a message for users saying that they were shutting down to obey the congressional ban. But also noted that they hoped to work with Trump to solve the issue.
Of course, by Sunday afternoon, TikTok announced it was resorting service after consulting with Trump who promised to do something to save the service.
But, let’s be real, here. TikTok’s brief shutdown was all a stunt.
TikTok had no real reason to shut down. After all, Biden had said right off that he would not order the government to force TikTok to shut down despite the congressional order. And Trump had signaled that he is now a supporter of TikTok, despite being a detractor of it a year ago.
So, congressional order or no, the outlet really didn’t have any reason to shut down… except for the publicity.
So, yeah, that is the only reason it shut down at all.
