Yes, America, you can be proud to know that the bald eagle is now your national bird.

I know what you are thinking… “Wait, what? Wasn’t it always our national bird?”

Well, the answer to that is… no. We never had a national bird until this month.

I am sure you re now scratching your head because even the least informed American knows that the bald eagle has been our national symbol sine about forever.

While that is true, the fact is this status has always been in an unofficial capacity. Congress has never given the bald eagle its official seal of approval until now.

In one of his final acts n office, Joe Biden signed a bill that made the American bald eagle the official bird of the U.S. On December 24, Biden signed Senate bill 4610, which amends Title 36 of the U.S. Code to designate the bald eagle as the national bird.

“The bald eagle is a symbol of our country’s freedom and strength. In Minnesota, we know a thing or two about eagles: We are home to one of the largest populations of bald eagles in the country as well as the National Eagle Center in Wabasha,” Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), recently said, The Hill reported.

So, despite it seeming to be our national bird for who knows how long, Congress has finally caught up and made it official.
