Friday, the Supreme Court heard the legal arguments about Joe Biden’s vaccine mandate. At one point, it seemed as if Justice Sonia Sotomayor was trying to get a job at MSNBC. Well, maybe not. Perhaps she was simply lying.  Sotomayor spoke about COVID

What she said was:

“We have hospitals that are almost at full capacity with people severely ill on ventilators. We have over 100,000 children, which we’ve never had before, in serious condition, many on ventilators,”

One Hundred thousand?

That’s a huge number!

According to the liberal skewing Politifact:

The most recent data available as of Sotomayor’s remark showed 3,342 children were currently hospitalized for confirmed COVID-19, according to federal data. That number rises to 4,652 children if suspected coronavirus cases are included.

Sotomayor’s number was way overblown. The number she used was about 30x larger than the actual number. We’re talking not even close to the truth. This means that Justice Sonia Sotomayor was engaging in the widespread legal practice known as “Plena Stercore” For those who don’t understand Latin, it translates to  Englsh as “full of SH*t.”

Politifact continues:

Sotomayor spoke of serious cases, which might not necessarily mean that the children went to the hospital. The American Academy of Pediatrics reported that as of the end of December, “child COVID-19 cases are above 100,000.” But it also noted that “it appears that severe illness due to COVID-19 is uncommon among children.”

The way Sotomayor is economical with the truth, perhaps she is looking to quit the court and run for political office (as a Democrat) .economical with the truth, which is what  Politifact concludes:

While the number of coronavirus-positive pediatric hospitalizations has risen with the spread of the omicron variant, Sotomayor’s number was way off.

At the time she made this comment, federal data showed that fewer than 5,000 coronavirus-positive children were in the hospital. In fact, fewer than 83,000 children have been hospitalized for COVID-19 — cumulatively — since August 2020.

There are over 100,000 cases among children, but scientists say that few of those are severe.

We rate the statement False.

False? I thought judges had to pursue the truth. SCOTUS Justices even more so. But strangely, Sonia Sotomayor wasn’t pursuing the truth. She was spewing lies. Maybe Cheif Justice Roberts can take from shivering under his desk and praying that everyone likes him and give Justice Sonia Sotomayor a remedial lesson on truthfulness.
