In one of those “he can’t be gone soon enough” stories, a reporter from the New Yorker reported that outgoing Senate majority leader Senator Mitch McConnell said he plans to work to undermine Donald Trump’s agenda by refusing to allow recess appointments.
Over the weekend, New Yorker staff writer Jane Mayer had jumped to X to report that McConnell told her he wants to stymie the Trump agenda in the Senate. She soon deleted the tweet, though.
Per The Daily Mail:
The backlash began after a now-deleted tweet from New Yorker staff writer Jane Mayer claimed McConnell told colleagues ‘there will be no recess appointments’ for the president-elect’s cabinet members.
‘Message to Trump Team: “There will be no recess appointments” Sen. Mitch McConnell said tonight at a Washington gathering,’ Mayer wrote on X at around 8 pm Sunday.
Trump has promised to use the strategy to defy Congressional oversight and bypass the Senate confirmation process when appointing people to senior administration positions.
He has demanded that the incoming GOP Senate leader back his use of recess appointments. McConnell recently stepped down from his position as GOP leader in the Senate and was replaced by South Dakota Senator John Thune.
However, McConnell is still the current majority leader until Thune takes over, and apparently he has vowed to do his best too harm Trump as much as he can before he heads for the leadership exit.
THIS is why the Republicans are called “The Stupid Party.”
They have no idea how to wield power and spend far too much time attacking each other and stepping on each other than working to advance the agenda… not to mention lacking any heart at all to destroy the real enemy of the people, the Democrat Party.
McConnell can’t be gone fast enough.
