California, and Los Angeles in particular, has decided that the movie industry is “essential.” But one bar/restaurant isn’t buying it after the owner was told to shut down under the Los Angeles outdoor dining ban, and a movie company with the same set up was placed not far away from her own patio. Angela Marsden, Pineapple Hill Saloon and Grill’s owner, worked hard to make sure her outdoor dining area was properly set up for “social distancing.” She is protesting the Governor and Mayor of LA for their ridiculous shutdowns. After obtaining some protest items, she found a movie set about 15 feet away from the outdoor dining area that mimicked hers when she came back to her business.
“I’m losing everything. Everything I own is being taken away from me and they set up a movie company right next to my outdoor patio, which is right over here. And people wonder why I’m protesting and why I have had enough.
They have not given us money and they have shut us down. We cannot survive, my staff cannot survive.
Look at this. Tell me that this is dangerous,
(as she points to her patio) but right next to me, as a slap in my face, that’s safe. This is safe? Fifteen feet away? This is dangerous? Mayor Garcetti and Gavin Newsom [are] responsible for every single person that doesn’t have unemployment, that does not have a job, and all the businesses that are going under.
We need your help. We need somebody to do something about this.”

Because of the major divide between mask-police and the anti-maskers, several people on the Twitter stream said they simply wouldn’t contribute to her GoFundMe because she was ‘protesting without a mask.’ Heartless commies.
“If they refuse to wear masks while protesting they cant be trusted to wear masks while operating a business.”
“They are side by side not respecting the social distancing rule.” @Tropicalslushy
That’s the kind of nonsense business owners are dealing with as their livelihood sinks. Fortunately, the Pineapple Hill Saloon has garnered over $70,000 as of this writing with the outpouring of support.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday, a California judge issued a ruling against Newsom’s outdoor dining edict. The Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge demanded scientific evidence to justify the outdoor dining ban. Many in the Golden State are infuriated with the violations of Gov Newsom, SF Mayor Breed, and one of the commissioners who voted for the ban and then went outside to eat at a restaurant. There are several recall petitions against Newsom.
The same day as the judge’s ruling, Mayor Garcetti issued a stay-at-home order, shutting down all the businesses. Except the movie business, of course. Wouldn’t want to wreck up those wealthy arrogant actors, now would they?
Let’s put it this way: every business is essential for those who own them and those who work in them. It’s how people feed their families. The “cure” has become far worse than the virus – the virus with a 99% survival rate. Yes, COVID kills, but so other diseases just as lethal. But with what science knows now as opposed to January 2020, there is no reason outdoor dining can’t occur in California. Or indoor dining, for that matter.
