A look at the amount of money illegal aliens cost our government compared to how much money they pay in taxes shows that the taxes they pay is a drop in the bucket compared to how much damage they do.
Many left-wingers like to pretend that illegals are not a big problem because they pay federal income tax, but “don’t get a refund” on tax day because they can’t legally file their taxes.
This is false for a host of reasons, of course, but Front Page’s Daniel Greenfield gave us evidence of how off base the left’s claim is even if it is taken at face value.
Greenfield noted that Bloomberg recently published a story in which the IRS claimed it was set to lose $12 billion in tax revenue as more illegals leave the country on their own, and are deported in mass numbers.
Liberals point to that and bloviate about how we are “losing money” by deporting people or otherwise making our country less attractive to law-breaking illegals.
But, let’s take this number at face value. Let’s say that we really will lose $12 billion in tax revenue as illegals are deported or self-deport. So, how does that figure compare to how much illegal immigration costs this country in other areas?
Per Greenfield:
Let’s assume those figures are even correct. The estimated cost of illegal aliens for 2023 was over $150 billion. Some estimates place the figures even higher and others lower. The FAIR numbers estimated the tax payments at $31 billion in which case it would be a matter of 5X. But let’s compromise at 3X.
What this hammers home yet again is that whatever financial benefits we get from open borders is more than offset by our losses.
Exactly right. Illegals cost us far, FAR more tax dollars than the what they might incidentally pay in taxes with their illegal jobs.
