A new study shows that medical societies are putting the health of patients in danger because they are focusing on extremist, left-wing policies that have nothing to do with their fields of expertise.
The group, Do No Harm, recently conducted a study that looked at the statements and policies of 28 medical societies. The study started looking at the activities of these societies starting in 2010 and going forward to today. The group found most have turned toward radical leftism often to the exclusion of their actual reason for being, the Washington Times reported.
For instance, 26 or the 28 societies have put out policy statements on racism and/or affirmative action despite that these topics have nothing whatever to do with medicine or medical issues. Also, 57 percent have statements on climate change while 18 percent have official positions on the wars going on in the Middle East.
Also, 50 percent of these societies have official positions and policy statements in support of illegal immigration.
“The politicization of medical societies represents a betrayal of the public’s trust in health care,” said Dr. Stanley Goldfarb, Do No Harm chairman. “Dues-paying members of the societies and the public they serve should expect nothing less than institutional neutrality from all specialist groups.”
It is true. If your society is supposed to be one focused on dentistry, or cancer, or any other medical sector, you have no business bothering yourself with climate change or illegal immigration. Stay in your lane.
