The left is up in arms over the story of a locksmith being fired from the Yosemite National Park system. But the incident is a perfect example of government waste and stupidity, NOT a story about the cruelty of the Trump administration.
As to the tale, the Washington Post wrote, “At California’s Yosemite National Park, the Trump administration fired the only locksmith on staff on Friday. He was the sole employee with the keys and the institutional knowledge needed to rescue visitors from locked restrooms.”
We dummies in the great unwashed masses are supposed to be outraged that this poor employee was fired and left par goers without access to the park’s restrooms.
But, is that the story?
Nope.
The real question we should be asking is why does the government need to employ a locksmith in the first place. The rest of us will open up the business listings and find a locksmith when we need one. And businesses don’t have locksmiths on staff. They do the same thing we do. If they need a locksmith, they just contact a guy who does that for a living to come in and perform the service.
Yet, government is wasting our money having a permanent locksmith sitting around eating bonbons and watching TV until that very rare time he is needed.
The entire job is unnecessary. It is waste. It is graft. It is a pay off to the government unions, giving them a no-work job.
And why is only one employee tasked as the keeper f the keys? What nonsense is that?
So, no, this story is not about evil orange man attacking a brave, innocent government employee. It’s about a useless drag on the federal treasury with a useless employee in a do-nothing job.
He should have been fired. But, more to the point, his job should never have been there on the first place. And that is true with most government jobs.
