Comedian and car collector Jay Leno is racing to save his collection from destruction by the extremist, green, nutcases running California and his efforts may help save the collections of other antique car owners.

California Democrats have passed a slate of laws that would make it impossible to run antique cars because they can’t possibly measure up to the state’s absurd emissions rules. The technology of these old cars simply makes it impossible to obey the state’s regulations on emissions, and that would consequently make the cars illegal in the state.

But “Leno’s Law” would solve that problem and exempt the old cars from these impossible standards.

The bill — introduced by state Senator Shannon Grove (R-Bakersfield) — would exempt all cars 35 years and older from emission testing. That would make all cars made before 1990 exempt from the testing schemes, but only if you have registered the car as a “collector car” with your insurance provider.

The only problem with the bill is that the 1990 date is a hard line and doesn’t advance as we go into the future. So, even in five years, it will still have a 1990 cutoff. That, though, can be fixed later by other laws, of course.

Regardless, many car collectors in the left-wing state will have Jay Leno to thank if this law is passed.
