A new Axios/Ipsos poll finds that Joe Biden is hemorrhaging Latino support and that Donald Trump is beginning to pick some of them up ahead of the 2024 election.
The Ipsos poll found:
- Trump gained 29 points on Biden since he assumed office in 2021 (53-24).
- Biden only holds a three-spoint lead among those who say they intend to vote this November.
- Trump holds a 22-point lead over Biden on who can handle the costly economy.
- Trump also holds an 11-point lead on reducing soaring crime.
Biden has lost 12 percentage points of support among Latinos since he entered office in 2020, the poll says.
While on the whole Latinos still have majority support for the Democrats, the truth is that Biden can’t afford to lose even a tiny number of his Latino support. Meanwhile, Trump has been steadily gaining Latino support for the past year even as Biden loses support.
Republicans have lost a bit in general, though. The GOP earned a lead of three points over Democrats for which party is better equipped to deal with Biden’s costly economy. But that is down from a seven point lead in 2023.
Republicans also lead on reducing the nationwide crime wave by four points. But, again, that is down from eight points in 2023.
The poll sampled 1,012 Latino adults from March 22-28, 2024, with a 3.6 point margin of error.
