A U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent died while working in Texas on Saturday according to officials.
Agent Donna Doss was hit by a passing vehicle driven by a 79-year-old man just west of Abilene, on the south service road of I-20 near mile marker 276 around 8:15 p.m. as she helped determine a subject’s alienage during a traffic stop, according to KTAB-TV. The Abilene Police Department is assisting in the investigation of the incident, which remains under investigation
“We have been in contact with all involved agencies, both that night and again today.” Abilene Police Chief Stan Standridge said in a statement. “APD used its drone to assist DPS with aerial photography today. We will provide any and all services that might be asked of APD.”
“Agent Doss died while performing her duty, protecting the community and the United States,” Del Rio Sector Acting Chief Patrol Agent Matthew Hudak said. “Our heart, prayers, and support go out to Agent Doss’ family in this time of need.”

A Border Patrol agent has been killed in Abilene, Texas, marking the first death of an agent on duty in 14 months.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Kevin McAleenan announced Sunday that Donna Doss, a 16-year veteran of the force, died while in the line of duty on Satuirday night. Her death marks the 128th time an agent has died while on duty since 1925.
“Last night, while on duty, United States Border Patrol Agent Donna Doss lost her life in Abilene, Texas. Agent Doss of Class 569 served for nearly 16 years. On behalf of U.S. Customs and Border Protection, my deepest condolences go out to her family and loved ones,” McAleenan said in a statement
The Abilene Police Officer’s Association said Doss was struck by a car while helping local law and state enforcement
