It is surprising how long this took, but the state of Texas has finally put the kibosh on plans to build a Muslim community that was to be run solely on sharia laws in contravention to state and federal laws.

A group of Muslims (I can’t say “radical Muslims,” really because all Muslims are radical) wanted to build this sharia city — to be called EPIC City — near Josephine, Texas, and for some time they had been given the green light by state and local officials to start building this abomination. But then word leaked out on a wider basis of the plans to build a city where American civil rights would be null and void to be replaced by dangerous and oppressive sharia rules. And people were outraged.

Now, it finally looks as though the state has come to its senses and put an end to these outrageous plans.

“Texas has halted any construction of EPIC City. There is no construction taking place,” Governor Abbott said on Sunday. “The state of Texas has launched about a half dozen investigations into this project. That includes criminal investigations.”

Abbott continued, “And the US Department of Justice is also investigating. This matter, and similar matters, are taken very seriously, and actions are being taken to address all concerns.”

“The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality found that the group behind the proposed EPIC compound did not submit the required permits to begin construction,” Governor Abbott added in a press release.

“They must confirm within seven days that they are immediately ceasing any construction of their illegal project or face the full weight of the law. The State of Texas will enforce its laws and protect our communities from unlawful actions or threats posed by EPIC or its affiliates.”

This is the right decision. Sharia law has no place anywhere in the United States of America. It is an oppressive, dangerous, un-American concept that cannot work in harmony with our laws, our ethics, or our history.
