The Trump Dept. of Treasury has announced that it has brought in a record $16.3 billion in customs duties in April.
The haul is a $7.6 billion increase from March.
The intake comes as Trump implemented his program of tariffs.
Per Just the News:
The new numbers mean that the United States has collected a total of $63.3 billion in customs duties since the start of the current fiscal year, which began last October. The number is also a $15.4 billion increase from the same period last year.
The U.S.’ total surplus for April was $258 billion, an increase of 23% from the same period a year ago. But the U.S. is still seeing a $1.05 trillion deficit for the current fiscal year, through April, which is also 23% higher than a year ago, according to the Wall Street Journal.
This number is likely to fall pretty much in the next few months as Trump is reducing his tariffs after gaining trade deals… which was the point all along.
