Donald Trump is promising to unleash a torrent of executive orders to fix some of the mess Joe Biden left America in, but he is far from the only president to look to a string of EOs to kick off an administration. Other presidents going back to 1957 did the same thing, some to a greater, some to a lesser degree.
Trump is saying he will issue 100 or more EOs on day one. If he does, it will set a record.
So, what is the record for the first 100 days of a presidency?
The top two EO issuers now happen to be Franklin D. Roosevelt — with 51 — and his successor Harry S Truman, who went with even more at 54… that is until Trump walks into the Oval Office on Monday at least.
The next highest number of EOs was Joe Biden at 42. In fourth place is Trump who during his first term issued 33.
Trump may not have signed as many during his first 100 days as Biden, but he did sign more than Biden did over the course of their respective presidencies.
During his disastrous four years in the White House, doter-in-chief Biden signed a total of 161 EOs. Trump, on the other hand, signed a total of 220.
However, both Biden and Trump look like pikers compared to the top record holders. F.D.R. signed an ungodly 2,203 EOs. His successor, Truman, signed 906. Next was Dwight Eisenhower, who signed 906.
