Levita Almuete Ferrer, who joined the Dept of State in 2015, has leaded guilty today to embezzling more than $650,000 from the U.S. State Department over a two-year period.
“The guilty plea was announced by U.S. Attorney Edward R. Martin Jr., Special Agent in Charge Benjamin Brockschmidt of the U.S. Department of State’s Office of Inspector General, and Deputy Assistant Director William Ferrari of the State Department’s Diplomatic Security Service Office of Special Investigations,” a State Dept. report says.

Ferrer, 64, admitted to using her signature authority to write checks to herself and three other people. All the cash from the checks flowed into Ferrer’s accounts, investigators said.
The suspect also used QuickBooks software to alter the paper trail to hide where the cash came from and went to.
As part of her plea deal, Ferrer will pay $657,347.50 in restitution to the U.S. government and is liable for a forfeiture money judgment in the same amount.
