As reported in the Washington Free Beacon:
House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R., Va.) and Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner (R., Wis.), chairman of the investigations subcommittee, pressed the nation’s top lawyer for answers on how he could simultaneously be unaware of potential prosecution of members of the press and personally approve investigations into those same reporters in a letter sent Wednesday.
The national press has pilloried the Justice Department following revelations that the agency secretly obtained phone logs and emails from the Associated Press and Fox News Channel reporter James Rosen.
“Whether you personally approved the search warrant request or were merely part of ‘discussions’ relating to a search warrant for Mr. Rosen’s emails, it is clear now that you were aware that the Department was engaged in a criminal investigation of a member of the media as far back as 2010,” the committee wrote.
The DOJ already admitted Holder lied. Last week the DOJ Department of Justice told Reuters:
The Justice Department said on Friday that officials up to Attorney General Eric Holder vetted a decision to search an email account belonging to a Fox News reporter whose report on North Korea prompted a leak investigation.
But the week before Holder testified before the House Judiciary Committee regarding the AP reporters scandal.During testimony under oath Eric Holder told Rep. Hank Johnson (D-GA) that targeting journalists was bad policy and something he’d never been involved in.
“First of all you’ve got a long way to go to try to prosecute the press for publication of material. This has not fared well in American history… In regard to potential prosecution of the press for the disclosure of material. This is not something I’ve ever been involved in, heard of, or would think would be wise policy.“
The fact that Holder lied before Congress should not be in dispute…the words speak for themselves.
Holder may be going for a record. It is a remote possibility that there is another Attorney General in US History who has been cited for Contempt of Congress, refused to defend a law that congress passed when it was challenged in the court system (DOMA), dropped an already won case because he didn’t think it was possible for African-Americans to commit voter intimidation, and who has also got caught lying to congress.
That has to be an all-time-record for arrogance and contempt for the American people
