In news that won’t shock anyone, a government workers union in Illinois has been found spending more of its member’s dues on Democrat politicians than it does on its members.

I know. SHOCKER!

According to Just the News, the Service Employees International Union of Illinois (SEIU) spent only a tiny 3 percent of its cash on representing its members. The rest went to the politicians they have in their pockets.

“Sixty-five percent of its spending was on political activities and lobbying,” Smith told The Center Square.

The SEIU Illinois State Council spent over $1.8 million in 2024. Of that, just over $57,000 was spent on representing workers, $1.2 million went to political activities and lobbying and the rest went to administration, overhead and other priorities.

Smith said the numbers highlight what is wrong with government unions in Illinois.

“What they have become are political parties, whether it’s SEIU or Chicago Teachers Union, they are using their clout to hire their own bosses. They pour money into candidates’ campaigns. They get those candidates elected, and then that’s who they sit across the bargaining table from,” Smith said.

Folks, there should never be such a thing as a government workers union. They should be against the law like they were before 1960.

Why do I say that? Because unions that represent government workers are inherently un-democratic and abhorrent to the will of the voter.

Think about this… voters have NO SAY in their own government thanks to these unions. We pay our taxes and cast our votes to affect our government. But when a union stands between we the people, and our elected officials, the voters have been cut out from the equation.

Thanks to unions, the voters can have no say in what our government spends and how it operates.

If we elect a politician to cut the budget, he really can’t do that because unions control what money is spent. If we elect a politician to retool government, fire employees, change the way offices are structured or how they work, he really can’t do it because unions control all that.

But who elected these unions? And why should they be allowed to dictate how our government is run and how much we must spend to run it?

Unions used to be illegal for government employees. Even the left’s favorite president Saint Franklin Roosevelt, said that unions were no good for government employees. He understood that if government employees had unions, eventually those employees would become unaccountable to politicians and the voters.

And that is where we are today.

It is long past time to outlaw all government employee unions.
