U.S. Military Being Politicized For Social Media ‘Clout’ And It Needs To STOP

First, it was the coordinated attacks by verified military accounts on Twitter against Fox News host Tucker Carlson for his opinion on the “inclusive” new pregnancy flight suits and allowing more hairstyles for women. Then it was the Guam National Guard being paraded into the office of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) led by her colleague, Rep. Michael F.Q. San Nicolas (D-GU) after she implied that Guam wasn’t part of America.

And of course, there is all of the social media virtue-signaling that the Pentagon has been engaged in as they show the world just how tolerant they are. The U.S. Department of Defense has embraced the “diversity, equity, and inclusion” agenda that takes us further from the “colorblind society” that was Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s dream.

Several military branches have also made sure to post something appropriate on social media for Pride Month — the USAF, Army, Navy, and even the newest branch, the Space Force.

This is all very, very stupid.

A military exists for exactly one purpose,  to be lethal. The reason that a nation’s military must be lethal is two-fold:

1. As a deterrent to prevent war.
2. To kill the enemy if war is necessary.

That’s it.

The military’s purpose isn’t an opportunity to get a college degree, a secure job, or a stepping stone to a future political career. Those are lures to recruit people in an all-volunteer military. The military isn’t there to be “a reflection of American society,” affirm sexual identity/orientation, or promote the radical feminist idea that there are no inherent differences between men and women.

And the military isn’t there to post snarky comments on social media with hashtags.

Speaking of snarky social media posts with hashtags, here’s the now-deleted tweet from the II Marine Expeditionary Force that ignited the firestorm:

The Marines have since apologized but the damage was already done. The floodgates were open and a private citizen who hadn’t served in the military now had a target on him.

The Department of Defense spokesman, John Kirby spoke to the press on Thursday and, unprompted, brought up the comments by Carlson. “We recognize the lack of female leadership across the senior ranks. What we absolutely won’t do is take personnel advice from a talk-show host or the Chinese military,” he said. Then added, “Maybe these people think they have something to prove…That’s on them.”

The senior enlisted leader for U.S. Space Command, Marine Corps Master Gunnery Sgt. Scott Stalker said in a video posted from the official Space Command Twitter account, “Those opinions were made by an individual who has never served a day in his life. Let’s remember that was drama TV.”

Lt. Gen. Ted Martin, a 3-star Army General has 16.8K followers on his personal Twitter account and got into the dunk on Tucker action.

Sergeant Major of the Army Michael Grinston, the senior enlisted leader, with a Twitter following of 24.7K, spoke directly about how women lead lethal units and will “dominate ANY future battlefield.”

Even the official DoD website posted an article that the Press Secretary apparently smote Tucker Carlson for his alleged sin of “dissing” diversity.

Maybe it’s just me, but this knee-jerk response to some comments by a cable news opinion show host seems just a wee bit thin-skinned.

For his part, Tucker Carlson isn’t apologizing for sharing his thoughts (because he shouldn’t) and is firing right back.

And he’s pulling no punches…figuratively speaking, of course.

Several high-ranking members of the military have made a flurry of apologies over the last few days.

But it’s not just military members that are politicizing the military. Congress isn’t beyond using members of the military as political pawns for their own ends.

The National Guard troops stationed in D.C. since the “insurrection” have been used as political props to show Americans how dangerous right-wingers are.

Having the nation’s capital look like a weak dictator is being protected by walls, fences, razor wire, and the military is just fine, but Senator Tom Cotton (R-AK) writing an op-ed in the New York Times that perhaps the troops should be mobilized to stop the nightly riots in major cities all over the country that had been going on for more than a month in order to save already-hurting businesses was such an outrageous suggestion that an editor was fired.

On Monday, Congressman Michael San Nicolas of Guam led the Guam National Guard troops to the office of Rep. Majorie Taylor Greene because she said during her CPAC speech in February, “I’m a regular person. And I wanted to take my regular-person, normal, everyday American values, which is, we love our country. We believe our hard-earned tax dollars should just go for America, not for what? China, Russia, the Middle East, Guam, whatever, wherever.” Rep. San Nicholas also brought a basket of cookies and a couple of books about Guam and posted the video on social media.

The staged dunk wasn’t so successful, however, since Rep. Taylor Greene wasn’t even in the office at the time and her aides were incredibly polite.

Why is it exactly that the Guam National Guard was available to march down to a freshman Republican Congresswoman’s office instead of being in, oh, I don’t know…Guam? Oh, that’s right. They’re in D.C. to protect the political class from super-dangerous “insurgents” that don’t ever show up.

The good news is that the Guam National Guard could at least go to the bathroom and get a few cookies instead of the food poisoning and inhumane conditions that thousands of National Guard troops have been subjected to by the Democrats that are currently running things in Washington.

For the record, Rep. San Nicolas has said that he had “no ill intent” when he led the Guam National Guard to Rep. Taylor Greene’s office, nor was there any politicization.

Do you buy that?

I wonder if he also took the Guam National Guard to the office of his Democrat colleague, Rep. Hank Johnson (D-GA) to reassure him that the island will not “tip over and capsize” if more marines were sent there.

Yes, he really did say that.

Yes, Rep. Hank Johnson may actually be the biggest imbecile in Congress-both houses.

But I digress…

How do we unwoke the military?

I don’t have a quick-fix for that.

But we should perhaps, stop using the military as political props for social media clout.

Daily Caller editor Geoffery Ingersoll posted on Twitter, “Can we stop encouraging uniformed members of the military to take part in digital dunk contests please thanks.”

It sounds like a good start to me.
