Leftist Gov. Gavin Newsom is nothing if not an inveterate liar, and this time he was caught claiming that his state is gaining citizens when, in fact, it is losing them as citizens flee his dystopian mess.
Last week, Newsom tried to gaslight America into thinking there is a “surge” of people moving to California to live among his socialist utopia.
Per The Center Square:
Newsom’s office recently sent The Center Square an email regarding the publication’s “close, detailed coverage of California’s population movements,” encouraging reporters to examine a Newsweek piece titled, “California Sees Surge in People Moving to the State,” noting the National Association of Realtors said California was among the most popular states for Americans to move to in 2024.
But as TCS goes on to point out, it just isn’t so. California is one of the several deep blue state that has LOST population for years.
Several population trackers have noted that California and Illinois have led the country in net outward migration for several years.
Newsom’s administration added the claim that the state’s population grew by 67,000 in the 2022-2023 fiscal year. But the Census also makes the lie to this claim.
According to an analysis of U.S. Census data from the Orange County Register, California lost a net of 268,052 residents in 2023, which is 73,814 better than in 2022. With the Census noting major losses across 2022 and 2023, it seems improbable that the state’s population grew.
“California experienced a historic population loss thanks to Newsom’s policies that encourage crime, homelessness and inflation,” said California Assembly Minority Leader James Gallagher, R-Yuba City, to The Center Square. “Things aren’t going to get better if the governor keeps cherry-picking data to delude himself into thinking he’s solved Californians’ problems.”
