In some of the most astonishing news, data seems to be showing that the youth vote is moving toward Donald Trump. The same age ranges that went gaga for Barack Obama in 2006 are not trending to Trump.
Data from James Zogby is showing that an important part of the Trump coalition is the 45 and under age demographic. This is the age range that sent Barack Obama (and to a smaller extent Joe Biden) to the White House.
Per the Washington Examiner:
“Building on our final poll release of the 2024 election, which highlighted Trump’s new broad coalition — notably younger and first-time voters that played a large part in carrying him to victory — we find today that the under-45 vote buttresses the president’s approval rating,” said Zogby, the managing partner of John Zogby Strategies.
“The president scores high among parents raising children — a voting bloc that largely corresponds with millennials who have now entered their 30s and 40s — the same group who helped carry President Obama’s victory in 2008. That amounts to a generational flip since the president’s first term when those older than 65 were a major source of Trump’s support,” added Zogby.
In fact, he said, older voters don’t approve of Trump, with 58% expressing disapproval.
The shift among 2024 election voters matches the change in how Americans are finding and consuming news, said Zogby. Those who have stuck with old media such as TV news and print lean away from Trump while new media users and those who rely on social media are joining his coalition.
“This particular angle is among the most critical findings from the poll because it aligns with a generational shift in the country — voters under 45 are much less trusting of traditional information sources and have gravitated towards two- to three-hourlong free-form podcasts and social media where satirical memes that challenge the national network and print narratives are commonplace. When it comes down to it, this is arguably the real divide,” Zogby added.
That is quite a thing, isn’t it?
What a difference a strong leader makes.
