Over the last four years, Americans have been dour about the future. But suddenly, polls show that Americans are expecting a better year in 2025. So, what changed?
I think you know before I even say it, right?
According to a new CBS News/YouGov poll. 60 percent of respondents said that they feel “hopeful” for 2025.
The reason, of course, is that Donald Trump is coming to office in less than a month on January 20 of next year.
The poll found other hopeful things, too.
The poll also found that about 55 percent cited family or personal relationships will make next year better, while 51 percent said that they expect the economy will be better.
Of course, the party split was very large on these results. 85 percent of those who identified as Republicans said they feel next year will be better, compared to 49 percent of independents and 38 percent of Democrats.
But, just about everyone feels bad about the economy.
Only 40 percent said that the economy is “good,” while 54 percent said it is bad. Respondents say they worry about inflation (96 percent), economic uncertainty is high (80 percent), and their personal finances are bad (75 percent).
As to food prices, 40 percent think Trump will be able to lower those prices, 36 percent say prices will continue to rise, and 24 percent thought they’d stay right where they are at today.
So, over all the poll finds that America is going into 2025 with their hopes high.
