This is why Donald Trump is the man for our age! The president has announced that he has taken federal cash that Biden was spending for free housing for lawbreaking illegal aliens and will now spend it for homeless veterans of our military.

This is fantastic news and what a great plan!

The president signed a new executive order on Friday titled, “Keeping Promises to Veterans and Establishing a National Center for Warrior Independence.”

The new effort will be headquartered in Los Angeles at the Veterans Affairs campus there.

Originally called the Pacific Branch of the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers, the campus was established in 1887 through a grant from former Republican Sen. John Percival Jones, Arcadia Bandini de Baker, and John Wolfskill.

There were a lot of these sort of establishments decades ago. They started just after the Civil War and were places that Civil War vets could live out their final days if they didn’t have any way to support themselves. It was a very common idea through much of the 1800s and early 1900s, but these soldier’s homes began going away in the 1960s.

This facility has since been used for other purposes.

“The Department of Veterans Affairs (Department) leased parts of the property to a private school, private companies, and the baseball team of the University of California, Los Angeles, sometimes at significantly below-market prices,” according to Trump’s executive order.

“As of 2024, there were approximately 3,000 homeless veterans in Los Angeles, more than in any other city in the country and accounting for about 10 percent of all of America’s homeless veterans. Many of these heroes live in squalor in Los Angeles’s infamous ‘skid row,'” the order adds.

But Trump means to change things. He means to turn these facilities back to their original purpose. His goal is to house up to 6,000 homeless veterans by 2028.

Let’s hope this idea can be replicated elsewhere.
