If the ‘good guy with a gun’ story is just a myth… what are we seeing here?

What began as a verbal altercation quickly became physical. Then others joined in, and the liquor store employee at the center had a choice: let the angry mob feed off itself and continue to escalate — or take drastic action.

He chose the latter.

Here’s a video (profanity warning):

And here’s the tweet where Colin Rugg explains the context:

California liquor store employee gets jumped by a mob of teens before pulling out a handgun, sending the wild mob scurrying.

The incident happened outside of Golden Hours Liquor in Oakland, California.

The employee got in a verbal spat with the thugs before he was jumped and assaulted.

In an effort to save his life, the employee was able to make it inside the doorway of the store before he pulled out a gun which he pointed at the teens, sending them scurrying.

Oakland police say no one was shot and nobody was arrested.

Bro, in the white t-shirt behind him, looked like he was trying to de-escalate the situation. But with no success.

A gun was pulled… and the mob participants re-considered their life choices. They scattered and went home.

Nobody was shot, but the threat was neutralized.
The employee was not hospitalized with life-changing head trauma, like so many people in a similar situation.

And now… the participants in the mob just might think twice before jumping some other poor sap in the future.

Not only did the gun not ‘kill people’… but there are a couple of ways that it might have actually saved lives — including the hypothetical poor sap that will never know that he might have been jumped.

The employee stayed remarkably cool until he started getting pounded from several different directions despite the tense situation.
