Oh boy Al Gore is not going to be happy. The Russian cruise ship Akademik Shokalskiy has been stuck at sea since Christmas morning, when it was seized by ice on the edge of the continent. The ship contacted the Australian Maritime Safety Authority for assistance, and three ice-breakers that were in the region are now racing through blizzard conditions to reach the vessel.

Sure this happens after all it is the Antarctic Ice Cap, but usually it happens during the winter. In the Southern Hemisphere, December 25th is right smack in the middle of summer. It’s the time the ice cap is supposed to retreat not freeze up and lock ships in the ice.  Heck, according to the global warming freaks, there isn’t even supposed to ice left in Antarctica.  Don’t worry though, the will find a way to excuse this latest summer blizzard.

The Chinese ship Snow Dragon (Xue Long) is expected to reach the ship Friday. In addition, the French vessel Astrolabe and the Australian ship, the Aurora Australis, will arrive soon after, according to Chris Turney, a professor of climate change at the University of New South Wales, Australia, writing on the expedition blog. Global Warming Alert!!!  Ship Stuck in Antarctic Ice—In Summer!

The passengers include 22 crew and 52 tourists, scientists and explorers. The ship, which left New Zealand last month, is on a special research voyage to honor the 100th anniversary of famed Australian explorer Douglas Mawson.

Thankfully it looks as though the 74 people on the ship will be OK. I am a bit worried about the global warming freaks though. Keep all sharp objects away from them at least for a few days.
