The hidebound Republican establishment is slowly going the way of the Dodo bird as a new poll finds that most Republicans now self-identify as a “Trump Republican.”
The new Napolitan News Service poll (conducted by Scott Rasmussen) released on Jan. 3 finds that 61 percent of Republicans identified themselves as “Trump Republicans.” Meanwhile, only 27 percent said they are “Reagan Republicans.”
The Democrat side of things shows a closer split. 45 percent said they are “progressive” while 44 percent said they are “traditional” Democrats.
This shows that Trump is winning the battle for hearts and minds and progressivism is on the wane.
Now, let’s also address what “Reagan Republican” means today, shall we?
It absolutely does not in any way mean that those who self-identify with that label are aligned with anything Ronald Reagan stood for.
Why do I say that?
Let’s look at Illinois, for example. All throughout the Reagan era most Illinois Republicans — especially those in party power and in office — were antagonistic toward Ronald Reagan. With but a very few exceptions, the Illinois GOP was establishment, near Democrats and NOT conservative Republicans like Reagan. They hated Ronald Reagan and did not espouse his ideals at all.
However, that changed about 1990 or so. By that time, all the establishment, RINO Illinois Republicans finally realized that they missed the boat and failed to join the movement of Republicans who adored Reagan. So, about that time, every last Illinois RINO started calling themselves “Reagan Republicans” to fool the voters into thinking that they would lead like Regan.
But they never were Reagan anything and just used the label for electoral purposes. So, what I am telling you is that, at this late date away from the real Reagan era, most Republicans who today identify as “Reagan Republicans” are RINOS who don’t really believe in Reaganism at all.
So, in this survey, we are not seeing a split between Trumpites and Reaganites. We are seeing the split between Trump and RINOs.
