If you were unfortunate enough to be watching 60 Minutes on CBS this past Sunday and viewed their first segment, it might have sickened you. It certainly sickened me.
Sanctimony Over the Top
The sanctimonious Scott Pelley interviewed a J6 intruder to the Capitol, as well as U.S. Attorney Matthew Graves from the U.S. Department of Justice and Thomas Griffith, a conservative retired judge. The theme of the segment was that Donald Trump sought to foment an insurrection against the federal government and that the 2020 election was the safest in U.S. history. Yes, you read that correctly.
Matthew Graves earnestly proclaimed that no J6 intruders to the Capitol were indicted unless they committed violence against police or others, vandalized property, or let others into the building. Those for whom no case could be built, he said, they were not prosecuted.
Thomas Griffith stated that no evidence, whatsoever, indicated sufficient election fraud to change the outcome of any precinct in America. He didn’t say town, he didn’t say county. He didn’t say state – he said precinct. Yet, we know from Judge Michael Gabelman’s study in Wisconsin, from the voter data revealed in Nevada, from the unregistered and unqualified voters in Georgia, as well as anomalies in Michigan, Pennsylvania, and particularly Arizona, that extensive voter fraud occurred and flipped some electoral college votes to Biden.
Gaslighting 52 Days Before the Election
In essence, CBS has contributed to perhaps the greatest gaslighting in the history of our nation and maybe in the history of democracy.
The poor soul who entered the Capitol, interviewed by Pelley, was coerced to appear contrite and apologetic as he was being force-fed a narrative conjured by CBS. The narrative was that DOJ operates with an even hand, no election fraud had taken place, and Donald Trump deliberately ginned up his followers to mount an insurrection.
All three of these assertions are ridiculous. DOJ has not operated with an even hand since Merrick Garland arrived. Citizens awaiting trial have been incarcerated for far longer than anyone should be in our great nation. The chief rabble rouser actually caught on video, Ray Epps, was let go with a hand slap.
The numerous FBI agents, officers, and other operatives on site who urged attendees to storm the Capitol have not been investigated. The pipe bombs conveniently found by FBI personnel at judicious moments were not discussed. The case of Ashley Babbitt was not taken up.
Officers who died because of coronaries after the riot were cited prominently as if to include them on J6, and to blame their deaths on Donald Trump.
An Unfounded Assertion
Most telling, the assertion that Donald Trump was seeking to foment an insurrection is among the least intelligent that one could make. If Trump had sought to overthrow the U.S. government, he had the time and possibly the means to do so. His approval among military personnel was off the charts. His approval among police and various Capital officers was exceedingly high.
Days before January 6, Trump could have arranged to have surrounded the nation’s capital and the Capitol building itself. He could have isolated senators and Congressional representatives. He did none of this. Instead, in the face of mounting evidence of massive election fraud, he held a rally where his many supporters could express their frustration and solidarity.
