Captain Sum Ting Wong, Wi Tu Lo, Ho Lee Fuk and Bang Ding Ow, were not the names of the flight crew of Asiana flight 214 that crash landed in San Francisco last weekend, but those were the names provided by San Jose News Station KTVU.

KTVU reported the fake names were “confirmed by the NTSB,” but there was Sum Ting Wong, very wong.  The list of names included a number of Asian stereotype names that sounds like phrases when spoken aloud (video below).

Later in the same newscast they admitted the names were wrong but contended the National Transportation Safety Board had confirmed the list of names (obviously they didn’t get the names from the NTSB) .

“Earlier in the newscast we gave some names of pilots involved in the Asiana Airlines crash. These names were not accurate despite an NTSB official in Washington confirming them late this morning. We apologize for the error.”
