In the twisted world of the United Nations, where fair is foul and foul is fair, Richard Falk is the perfect UN employee. As I pointed out when he was appointed to his position, as United Nations Special Rapporteur on Palestinian Human Rights (the official Israel basher) Falk is a believer of all kinds of conspiracy theories including “trutherism.”

After doubling down on his “trutherism” on his personal blog this past November, Falk was admonished by US United Nations Ambassador Susan Rice and UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon for his public declarations that the full story of who was behind 9/11 is still unknown. Falk replied by saying that he wasn’t doubting the official version of 9/11 but he just wanted to fill some holes of unknown information, and that the criticism against him was just the work of “The Lobby” trying to silence him from talking about Palestine.  It appears that Falk’s denial is just another one of those Falk-ing lies.

Just before his controversial blog post, and the ensuing controversy, Falk appeared on the Kevin Barrett “Truther” radio show:

HOST: Well, hospitals are not the best places to be if you can possibly avoid them, that’s for sure. You’ve offered words of praise for his most recent book, on Cass Sunstein the Obama advisor who wrote that outrageous article urging the government to infiltrate the 9/11 truth movement, and disable the purveyors of conspiracy theories and so on, which would seem to be wildly unconstitutional. What’s your take on David’s book and why Cass Sunstein would be so extreme in his urging the government to drop the constitution and take down the 9/11 truth movement?

FALK: Well, of course very speculative, I think that Griffin’s book is a devastating critique of the Sunstein position. The Sunstein position seems to reflect either an implicit or explicit anxiety in the power elite that is running this country that they have to do everything they can to discredit those that are questioning the official version of what took place on 9/11. That they do this in part by pretending that by calling something a conspiracy theory, you’ve eliminated the need to investigate the factual reality of what took place. The liberal press has gone along with that to a frightening degree because they seem to feel that their reputation depends on not endorsing any kind conspiracy notion or anything that is labeled a conspiracy, unless of course it comes from a progressive source, in which case they jump to establish a conspiracy theory. [The liberal press] are very ready ever since the Cold War, to call any sympathy with progressive causes as the basis for criminal accountability. You see that in the pursuit of some Muslim religious figures, not only here, but in Western Europe and elsewhere.

Gee that doesn’t sound like someone who feels a need to “plug some holes” of information. It sounds more like someone who claims that there is a Government conspiracy to cover  up the truth.

Neither his November blog post nor his statement above are Falk’s first brushes with the truther conspiracy theory.

In 2004, Falk wrote the preface to David Ray Griffin’s book The New Pearl Harbor: Disturbing Questions About the Bush Administration and 9/11 which maintains that the George W. Bush administration was complicit in the September 11 attacks. In his preface he argued:

“There have been questions raised here and there and allegations of official complicity made almost from the day of the attacks, especially in Europe, but no one until Griffin has had the patience, the fortitude, the courage, and the intelligence to put the pieces together in a single coherent account.”

Falk was a signer of the same 9/11 truther petition that got Van Jones in trouble. Falk is  number 29. In 2009 when asked if he still supported that petition which said in part:

On August 31, 2004, Zogby International, the official North American political polling agency for Reuters, released a poll that found nearly half (49.3%) of New York City residents and 41% of those in New York state believe US leaders had foreknowledge of impending 9/11 attacks and “consciously failed” to act. Of the New York City residents, 66% called for a new probe of unanswered questions by Congress or the New York Attorney General.

Falk said he would sign it again.  He also pointed out that he is not a truther, because he doesn’t have a different version of what happened on 9/11 he just has doubts about the official story.

The deliberate blurring of the boundary between questioning the persuasiveness of the official version of 9/11 and the endorsement of an alternative theory of the events that implicates high officials in the Bush presidency seems designed to prevent further inquiry. Citizens in a democratic society deserve to know the truth, and to seek the truth in matters of such fundamental national importance should be treated as an expression of patriotic duty rather than the reverse.

In November 2008, Falk wrote in The Journal, a student publication in Edinburgh, Scotland:

“It is not paranoid under such circumstances to assume that the established elites of the American governmental structure have something to hide and much to explain… The persisting inability to resolve this fundamental controversy about 9/11 subtly taints the legitimacy of the American government. It can only be removed by a willingness, however belated, to reconstruct the truth of that day, and to reveal the story behind its prolonged suppression.”

Richald Falk United Nations Special Rapporteur on Human Rights is an embarrassment to the United Nations,  something I never thought possible. This is a guy who has Ayatollah Khomeini a liberator. He has blamed Islamofacist terror on the fact that much of Islam “finds itself under the heels of U.S. economic, military, cultural, and diplomatic power” and just like Rosie O’Donnell is a member of groups who are still waiting for the “real” story of 9/11. Beyond it all he doesn’t even have the guts to stand up for his ridiculous theory that the truth behind 9/11 is not known.  That makes him more than just a nut-job, but a coward as well.
