The Trump White House is reportedly preparing its plan to cancel all federal funding for National Public Radio (NPR) and the Public Broadcasting System (PBS). And it’s about time!
The requests to stop federal funding for the two broadcasters are part of a “rescissions” plan, and White House officials are reaching out to congress to find supporters for the effort.
The Trump admin. wants to pull back the $1.1 billion already appropriated for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) along with the even bigger $8.3 billion redirected its was from USAID.
According to the New York Post:
Formal transmission of the plan after the Easter recess will start a 45-day clock for the House and Senate to adopt or reject the blueprint, which the White House believes will pass with the required simple majority in each chamber — unlike President Trump’s 2018 rescission plan, which failed narrowly in the Senate.
“Since day one, the Trump Administration has targeted waste, fraud, and abuse in Federal spending through executive action, DOGE review, and other efforts by departments and agencies. Congress has expressed strong interest in supporting those efforts, and requested the Administration transmit rescissions to the Hill for swift approval,” Vought’s memo says.
“OMB recommends the Administration respond with two proposals to cut $9.3 billion. The first includes a rescission of $8.3 billion in wasteful foreign aid spending (out of $22 billion) that does not expire in Fiscal Year (FY) 2025. The second is a separate rescission of all Federal funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) — which funds the politically biased public radio and public television system.”
It’s about time these bastions of anti_Americanism and left-wing partisanship is denuded of our tax dollars. If these dangerous entities was to spew they hate for half of America and all of American history, they can pay for it themselves.
Let’s hope the Republicans can get this done.
