This was the Shavuah Tov the people in Sderot received —a barrage of rocket attacks, one of which seriously injured a 8 year-old boy and his 19 year old brother. Folks you can yell and scream at the Palestinians, call them terrorists, inhuman animals etc, and you would be right. But the blame must also be put on Prime Minister Olmert, and Defense Minister Barak both of which have been promising an adequate response to the terrorism for months, we keep hearing “this time we really mean it” and very little has been done to protect the people of the Negev. Despite all of the “public” declarations, the IDF’s hands are still tied.

Deputy Director of Barzilai, Dr. Ron Lobel, told Ynet that five people had arrived to the hospital in connection with the attack in Sderot, including four people from the same family. The 8-year-old boy was suffering from injuries to his lower body but Dr. Lobel said that his lungs had not been damaged. His 19-year-old brother sustained shrapnel wounds and had some open abrasions. The mother and third brother, 15, arrived to the hospital in order to be treated for shock, the deputy director said. The two injured brothers are set to undergo surgery on their legs. Avner Chen, a taxi driver that was passing through the area of the attack, told Ynet that “I heard the ‘Color Red’ (siren) and I started running quickly from the car and laid down on the road and then I heard the very loud explosion right next to me. “I saw smoke and when I got up, I saw the boy and another youngster outstretched on the road, one of them was very seriously wounded and it looked horrendous. “I tried to stop the flow of blood and then the second one shouted ‘help me, save me!’ and I went to the second one and started to help him as well. At the same time, I called for Magen David Adom and the fire department on the radio. “It was a dreadful sight, one of the worst I’ve seen in my life,” Chen said. Minister visits embattled town Earlier on Saturday, Internal Security Minister Avi Dichter visited Sderot after more than 30 Qassam rockets were fired into the western Negev since Friday morning. “I found a battered city. Twenty percent of its residents have gotten up and left,” he said. “The residents have harsh feelings, because they believe the end of the Qassams is not in sight.” One of the places Dichter visited was the Peretz family home, which was directly hit by a Qassam rocket Friday evening. He listened to a teenage boy, a relative of the family, who told him that he was scheduled to go on an annual school trip to Mount Hermon on Sunday, but that he felt uncomfortable leaving his family in Sderot. The minister promised the boy to take him on a visit to Jerusalem and the Knesset on Monday, instead of the school trip.
