Americans are too soft. We so desperately want to help people that we end up hurting ourselves. We did it with welfare, we do it in the war on terror, and we do it when it comes to Illegal immigration. Too many people on the liberal side of the fence argue that illegal immigration is a racial issue. Those of us that want to protect the US boarders inspired by racism, trying to keep out Hispanics. This is simply not true. Illegal immigration is a Law and Order Issue and a anti-terrorism issue. Hence the word ILLEGAL
At a time when our southern border is becoming a war zone, President Obama’s Justice Department and the Department of Homeland Security have suddenly begun harassing a border-state sheriff who zealously enforces the law.
In early March, the Justice Department notified Sheriff Joe Arpaio, the top lawman in Maricopa County, Ariz., that his department is under investigation for “patterns” of discriminatory police practices and unconstitutional searches and seizures. The letter offered zero specifics, because there were no specifics to be had. But if I had to make a guess, I would bet that any specifics they could come up with would match the radical agenda of community organizers like ACORN and other government-funded immigration lobbyists, all of whom just happened to launch a coordinated campaign againt the Sheriff at about the same time as the justice department action
Arpaio’s department is the largest participant in the 287(g) federal program that lets local police departments help enforce federal immigration laws. His deputies cooperate with federal agencies, such as Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), that break up smuggling rings. Since 2006, Arpaio has handed over 22,616 illegal immigrants to Immigration for deportation.
Sheriff Joe isn’t taking the federal government harassment lying down, today he joined his lawyers at a press conference:
PHOENIX – Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio and his attorneys said in a press conference Monday that the U.S. Department of Justice and Homeland Security have an ulterior motive in their investigation into the sheriff’s office.
Arpaio and his attorneys outlined their reasons for demanding an investigation into the two agencies for unethical conduct and improper political influence during the course of their investigation of Arpaio’s illegal immigration enforcement policies.
“After serving with the DOJ for nearly 30 years as a ranking official with the DEA, it is almost painful to have to ask for this investigation,” Arpaio says. “But I must take a stand. Every law enforcement agency the DOJ has investigated in the past has bowed down or rolled over to the federal government. This agency and this sheriff will not. Washington should not tell an elected sheriff how to conduct his law enforcement responsibilities.”
Arpaio also said in a press release that the Obama administration is forcing the sheriff to bend on illegal immigration enforcement.
On March 10, the DOJ announced it was launching an investigation into Arpaio and his illegal immigration policies to see if he was racial profiling the Hispanic community.
Arpaio says since the investigation began, the DOJ investigators have lied to senior sheriff’s office officials and engaged in an orchestrated scheme designed to acquire documents and witness testimony surreptitiously in order to discredit Arpaio and his office.
In a letter to U.S Attorney General Eric Holder and Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, Arpaio voiced his concerns about the DOJ’s investigation into his office.
One concern was that the DOJ and DHS officials obtained interviews and documents from senior sheriff’s officials who should have been entitled to legal counsel but were denied.
Another concern Arpaio has is that in the “100 Day Report” to the Obama Administration, DOJ investigators bragged about the accomplishment of the investigation into Arpaio before they even had any evidence or facts.
Arpaio also says the DOJ admitted it based its investigation into Arpaio solely on “media reports”. He says even Congressman John Conyers, Chairman of the Judicial Committee, said he had no facts or evidence other than what he read in the paper before he asked the DOJ to launch its probe. Arpaio’s attorneys say they are certain this investigation is not about justice but rather about a new Washington D.C. administration that wants Arpaio to do things the president’s way, for the president’s purpose.
