As expected, John Kerry doesn’t know what heis talking about. In his first comments since Secretary of State Kerry announce the restart of peace talk, Palestinian President Abbas said this morning that he has not yet agreed to talks and will not until Israel agrees to start negotiations by agreeing to return to the 1949 armistice lines.
Abbas’ Spokesman said that the “moderate” terrorist Abbas agreed to send a delegate to Washington to continue
lower-level preliminary talks with an Israeli counterpart about the
terms for negotiations. The Washington talks are meant to “overcome the
obstacles that still stand in the way of launching negotiations,”
In other words, they have agreed to talk about having talks.
Abbas spokesman Nabil Abu Rdeneh said Sunday night that the path to formal negotiations with Israel is still blocked.
Gaps remain on three issues Palestinians say need to be settled before talks can begin — the baseline for border talks, the extent of a possible Israeli settlement slowdown and a timetable for releasing long-detained Palestinian prisoners.
On the other hand Israel has said everything must be negotiated and that there will be no return to the pre-1967 borders without recognition of Israel as the Jewish State. Israeli negotiator former Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni:
“There is an opportunity not just to hold a dialogue with the Palestinians in order to end the conflict but a chance to form an alliance with the moderates in the region … in order to act against the extremists,” Livni told members of her party Monday.
Perhaps Kerry made the announcement to put pressure on the parties (or perhaps he is just very naive) but based on their history the Palestinians wont bite –they will look for anyway possible to avoid peace (as their constitutions still call for the destruction of the “Zionist Entity.’
