The police arrived at the house in question with the owner, Kristi Croskey, to check on the welfare of the children. As the police entered the home, the renter, a man named Bruce Randall “Zeus” Johnson II opened fire on the officers. One officer, Reginald “Jake” Gutierrez put himself between his partner, the homeowner, and the gunman in an effort to get everyone to safety. Officer Gutierrez yelled for the others to “Get out!” of the house even as the gunman opened fire. Officer Gutierrez was hit, but his partner and the others were able to escape.

A police sniper was eventually forced to kill the gunman after an 11-hour standoff in which the man used his two young children (6 and 8) as human shields. Now the homeowner, Ms. Croskey, is speaking out to praise the Tacoma police and to make sure that the professional race-baiters don’t get involved in the story.

From the Blaze:

“I would like to say that I don’t want to hear anything about Black Lives Matter, because all lives matter,” Kristi Croskey, who is black, told KING-TV. “I do not want to hear about the police officers being inhumane and shooting people [unnecessarily] or any of those things. I want to say that the Tacoma Police Department handled this matter with such professionalism despite their own being shot”…

“And I want to say that this situation did not have to occur,” Croskey added to KING, noting the suspect’s “poor choices.”

“I want you to know that the Tacoma Police Department did any and everything that they could to protect and serve,” she continued telling the station. “They wanted to protect the life of him, his family and anyone else that was involved in this matter. I do not want to hear anything about the Tacoma Police Department did wrong, the Lakewood Department did wrong. I want people to start taking a long inventory of themselves and see what they did wrong.”

Our thoughts and prayers are with the friends and family of Officer Gutierrez and the police officers of the Tacoma P.D.
