Here is another example of political correctness gone very mad. Yesterday, May 5th Daniel Galli and four of his buddies wore clothes decorated with the Stars and Stripes to school, Live Oak High School in Morgan Hill California, a small town south of San Jose.
Daniel and his friends were sitting at a table during a free period the vice principal walked over and asked two of the boys to remove the American flag bandannas on their heads and the other three to turn their American flag T-shirts inside out. The boys refused and were ordered to go to the principal’s office.
“They said we could wear it on any other day,” Daniel Galli said, “but today is sensitive to Mexican-Americans because it’s supposed to be their holiday so we were not allowed to wear it today.”
The boys said the administrators called their T-shirts “incendiary” that would lead to fights on campus.
“They said if we tried to go back to class with our shirts not taken off, they said it was defiance and we would get suspended,” Dominic Maciel, Galli’s friend, said.
Incendiary? While much of California (especially the Bay Area) think differently than the rest of the country, last time I checked, it was still one of the 50 states. And ad for insulting Mexican-Americans, suggesting that they might be insulted by seeing an American flag is suggesting that they are somehow less American than the rest of us. THAT suggestion is insulting and racist.
But the vice principal’s actions were supported by the Mexican-Americans in the School, many of whom said that they were offended that the five students would wear American colors on a Mexican holiday.
“I think they should apologize cause it is a Mexican Heritage Day,” Annicia Nunez, a Live Oak High student, said. “We don’t deserve to be get disrespected like that. We wouldn’t do that on Fourth of July.”
“I’m not going to apologize. I did nothing wrong,” Galli said. “I went along with my normal day. I might have worn an American flag, but I’m an American and I’m proud to be an American.”
The five boys and their families met with a Morgan Hill Unified School District official Wednesday night. The district released a statement saying it does not agree with how Live Oak High School administrators handled this incident. The boys will not be suspended and they were told they can go back to school Thursday.
How far our country has deteriorated. This is The United States of America, we need to teach our children to be proud of their country, no matter the ethnicity. There is absolutely nothing wrong with Mexican-American wearing Mexican flags on Cinco de Mayo or any other day to show pride in their heritage. But at the same time there should never be anything wrong with Americans showing pride in their country EVER!
This politically correct nonsense has gone way too far. Whats next? Jews have to take of their Jewish Stars on Ash Wednesday? or Christians banned from wearing Crucifixes during Chanukah? Maybe schools will legislate that we all have to wear Italian flags on Columbus day or Green on St. Patrick’s day.
One of the things that has made this country great is we are a melting pot of different cultures and ethnicities. It is great for people to celebrate their backgrounds, but that should never stop us from celebrating the one thing that binds us all together, the greatness of the United States of America.
